Craniosacral Therapy & Dental Treatment for Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMJ)

Why may I have an increase in my pain and symptoms after treatment?

During a Craniosacral treatment, the practitioner is gently coaxing the bones of your skull & face into alignment, together with the delicate underlying cranial membranes and other structures inside your head. After an injury such as a head injury, some of the bones of your skull & face may be out of their correct positions, which creates symptoms of pain, numbness, tingling etc. The repositioning of these structures is what creates the discomfort after a treatment, as the body and brain adjust to the new arrangement. As treatments continue and better functioning is restored, symptoms lessen and the pain goes away.

Is Craniosacral therapy covered by my insurance?

Not usually. However, since it may be recommended by your dentist as an adjunctive therapy to your TMJD treatment, a letter from your dentist stating this may be considered by your insurance provider. Some insurance companies may request a treatment plan from your dentist.
